The Loran House project presented a unique opportunity to address fire regulations and enhance the energy efficiency of the building. As a care home requiring refurbishment, it was paramount to comply with current regulations while maintaining a strong relationship with the client. SFP Contracts, having previously collaborated on other successful projects, was entrusted to deliver exceptional results once again.

Given the nature of the care home and the imperative for non-combustible materials, Mineral Wool was selected as the ideal insulation choice. The previous EWI system had proven to be combustible and unreliable, necessitating its complete removal and replacement with an A-rated system to meet the needed regulations in place.

The installation process for the Loran House project spanned 16 weeks and involved several carefully planned stages. Our skilled team began by removing the old cladding and ensuring the protection of windows. Fire barriers and new boards were then fitted to meet safety regulations.

Next, SFP Contracts proceeded with the installation of Mineral Wool (MW) boards and applied the base coat render. The installation of brick slips followed. Throughout the process, regular valuations were conducted to monitor progress and ensure quality standards were met.

In the later stages, the rear elevation was addressed, with the removal of old boards and the installation of new ones, along with fire barriers. The team then focused on applying the base coat render and fitting brick slips to the side and rear elevations.
As the project neared completion, attention shifted to the lower ground and entrance areas, with the application of texture finishes and the final coating to various sections. The process concluded with a thorough assessment, addressing any remaining snags to ensure a polished final result.

One notable challenge encountered during the project involved the presence of decorative stone plinths on every floor sill, which were previously inadequately fitted. Our highly skilled installers rose to the occasion by readjusting and working around these elements in order to preserve the building’s original features. Additionally, the project presented a tight 16-week deadline, requiring efficient planning and the strategic use of brick slips to expedite the process without compromising on quality.

The transformation of Loran House has been incredible, leaving the client and local planners highly satisfied. The refurbished version reflects the building’s previous features, such as the original exposed brick matching the local area’s common colour, now replicated with matching colour brick slips. The outdated, cracked hi-build render has now been replaced with a modern high-quality silicone render in a matching colour, enhancing the overall aesthetics.
