Mapei thermal solution specified at Keyham Road & St Leo Place, Plymouth
A Mapei thermal insulation system has helped transform a residential development in Plymouth City Centre. The Keyham Road and St Leo Place apartment building, by Kendall Kingscott Architects, overlooks the nearby HM Devonport Dockyard. Spanning over 2,000m2, the external refurbishment project, for Plymouth Community Homes, was completed by Richard Brown Plastering Contractors Ltd for main contractor Classic Builders (South West) Ltd.
The external works at Keyham Road and St Leo Place included works to the communal areas, roofing works, windows and doors replacement, EWI to all elevation’s walls and complete redecoration. The project is one of three refurbishments taking place across the city, at Keyham, Morice Town and Stoke. Mapei’s Mapetherm Mineral Wool System was chosen to provide thermal performance benefits and BBA Certified A2 rating required by the architectural team. Due to the complexity of the build, Mapei’s technical team were onsite fortnightly, to advise on installation and provide detailed drawings for non-standard situations, as they arose.
Mapei Mapetherm Mineral Wool is a dual-density rock wool insulating panel for thermal insulation systems. Panels measure 120 x 60cm and are available in a range of thicknesses from 40-240mm. Since completion of the renovation, the architectural team and Plymouth Community Homes have
specified the Mapetherm EWI system for an additional four apartment blocks, totalling over 6,000m2.
“Richard Brown Plastering Contractors were very happy to work alongside the project. Our men were very complimentary of the Mapei product, the quality and ease of use, a very high performing product,” commented Carly Crawford, Richard Brown Plastering Contractors Ltd.
