INCA EWI Case Study: Keresforth Hill Road, Barnsley

This building was originally built back in the early 1,900’s and has a interesting past. The property was originally built to support 8 young people with disabilities such as autism. The building was known previously under the following 3 names- Needle worth Care Home, Needle worth Resource Centre and also known as the birchwood site owned by a company called the Options group. The building was closed in 2007 and then shortly after converted into offices. Fast forward to 2024 -2025 and the building was then bought by the client and converted into a the modern family home we see today.

Due to structural concerns and design alterations – Some parts of the original building were demolished and following the architects ambitious plans were rebuilt so the building can be used for its new domestic residential purpose.

There were multiple substrates for us to consider within the project EWI system design, with the overall area in excess of 250m2.

LR External Wall Insulation and Rendering was appointed to deliver a comprehensive external wall insulation and redecoration package, centred around the installation of a 90mm EPS External Wall Insulation system. This was combined with Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield Silicone Render, chosen for its high performance, durability, and long-term resistance to weathering. The system provides an effective thermal upgrade to the building envelope, reducing heat loss and contributing to improved energy efficiency.

Director of LR EWI and Rendering commented “we have transformed the building to a modern and desirable property, whilst making sure the property thermal efficient throughout. The works completed on the building has transformed the its appearance and making it appear like a picture postcard property”.
