INCA EWI Case Study: Beech Avenue, Nottingham

The Beech Avenue project, delivered for Tuntum Housing Association, is a strong example of how targeted retrofit intervention can significantly enhance both the performance and visual appeal of residential buildings. The scheme focused on a block of four flats, with a clear brief to improve thermal efficiency, modernize the external appearance, and create a more comfortable and attractive living environment for residents.

Renderclad Limited was appointed to deliver a comprehensive external wall insulation and redecoration package, centered around the installation of a 100mm EPS External Wall Insulation system. This was combined with Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield Silicone Render, chosen for its high performance, durability, and long-term resistance to weathering. The system provides an effective thermal upgrade to the building envelope, reducing heat loss and contributing to improved energy efficiency for residents.

From a technical and installation perspective, the project required careful attention to detail to ensure a consistent and high-quality finish across all elevations. Working on an occupied residential building meant that close coordination and clear communication with residents were essential throughout the programme. The installation works were carefully sequenced to minimise disruption, while maintaining strict quality control standards in line with best practice for EWI applications.

A key feature of this project is the emphasis on design and aesthetics. Rather than delivering a purely functional upgrade, the scheme incorporates a thoughtfully developed colour strategy to enhance the building’s character. The use of a warm cream base tone, contrasted with powder blue detailing, creates a visually striking yet elegant façade. The silicone render finish plays a vital role in both performance and appearance, providing excellent breathability and resistance to cracking, algae growth, and adverse weather conditions.
