This is an able-to-pay customer who contacted us for advice on reducing their energy costs and improving their home’s energy efficiency. The homeowner had recently carried out renovation works to the property; however, it remained energy inefficient. The walls became extremely cold during the winter months, and despite the heating being on for extended periods, the property never felt consistently warm.
We carried out a survey and identified that the property has solid brick walls which had not been insulated. We therefore recommended installing external solid wall insulation, together with solar panels, to improve the property’s overall energy efficiency.
For the solid wall insulation, we recommended and installed the following system:
- Atlas EWI system with 100mm EPS insulation to achieve the required U-value.
- 50mm XPS boards installed at the DPC level.
- A brick-effect finish was applied to complement the property’s appearance.
Challenges
Due to other ongoing renovation works at the property, there were a number of delays. We also had to liaise with the electrical contractor to coordinate the installation alongside the electrical works.
Outcome
The homeowner is extremely satisfied with the completed insulation works. As the installation was only recently completed, we will need to wait a few months to collect data and assess the monthly energy cost savings and overall improvement in energy efficiency.
