Set in the heart of Canford Magna, AFC Bournemouth’s new state-of-the-art training ground is a flagship development that reflects the club’s Premier League status and long-term vision. Designed by AFL Architects, the purpose-built facility spans 57 acres and includes a mix of elite player amenities, gym facilities, hydrotherapy pools, and ten full-size pitches. Central to the build was delivering a modern, high-performance façade that met strict thermal and acoustic performance criteria, while aligning with the architect’s sleek, contemporary aesthetic.
Benx, operating under the SPS Envirowall brand, worked in close partnership with Regency Facades to deliver a technically advanced render system. The primary challenge was meeting specific U-value and acoustic targets for the building’s steel frame structure (SFS), which demanded precision and innovation.
To meet these performance benchmarks, Benx proposed its high-performance Direct Fix System, a BBA-certified solution ideal for SFS substrates. The system was installed over sheathing boards and incorporated mineral wool insulation in two thicknesses – 100mm and 150mm to ensure the required U-value and sound attenuation were achieved. The façade was then finished with a 1.5mm silicone render topcoat, offering both flexibility and durability while delivering a crisp, modern appearance.
A key aspect of this project’s success was the collaborative and responsive approach between Benx and Regency Facades. With a tight deadline driven by the club’s pre-season training schedule, careful coordination and clear communication were essential. Benx provided technical support throughout, including U-value calculations, acoustic advice, and on-site support to ensure smooth delivery and compliance.
The resulting finish not only meets high-performance standards but also supports the overall architectural vision – a clean, refined appearance that reflects the professionalism and ambition of the club. The white render with its fine 1.5mm grain complements the black metal detailing across the façade, echoing AFC Bournemouth’s club colours in a subtle yet powerful expression of identity.
This project stands as a testament to the value of collaboration, technical excellence, and attention to detail. It’s a showcase of how render systems can be used to combine form and function in high-profile sports developments. For Benx/SPS Envirowall and Regency Facades, it was an opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s most exciting football infrastructure projects, delivering on performance, aesthetics, and timeline with precision.
