Raising the Standard for Safe, Durable Façade Remediation
Royal View in Brighton stands as a landmark project in UK construction, featuring the replacement of the existing building façade with new non-combustible cladding, render, and associated remediation works.
Located in the historic centre of Brighton, Royal View has been part of the Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS), which addresses fire safety concerns associated with cladding on residential buildings.
At the heart of this milestone development was a robust partnership approach and a shared commitment to transforming residential façades with fire-safe, thermally efficient solutions.
As part of a collaborative supply chain led by main contractor CBG Construction Ltd, Wetherby Wall Systems was proud to supply the External Wall Insulation (EWI) system used to upgrade the building’s thermal envelope. This bespoke EWI solution was specifically designed to meet modern fire performance standards while also enhancing the visual character and long-term durability of the existing façade.
The installation was delivered by APEX Facades Ltd, one of Wetherby’s recognised contractors, whose expert handling of the full façade package ensured an exceptionally high standard of finish across the building’s external walls. The system incorporated non-combustible insulation materials and advanced silicone render technology, providing a resilient, low-maintenance surface that will perform for decades to come.
The Royal View project utilised a combination of two systems to suit the mix of steel frame and masonry substrates. Both the Wetherby Masonry System and the Wetherby Steel Frame System are high-performance external wall insulation solutions, incorporating non-combustible ROCKWOOL Stone Wool insulation. These systems deliver outstanding fire performance (A1 rated) and excellent thermal efficiency, making them ideal for high-rise and multi-occupancy residential buildings. Both were finished with Wetherby Silicone Render.
The 110mm insulation boards were mechanically fixed and finished with Wetherby Silicone Render, which provides outstanding weather protection, breathability, and long-term durability. The render is water-repellent yet vapour-permeable, helping to prevent moisture ingress while allowing the building to breathe.
In addition to its functional benefits, the system delivers a high-quality, uniform appearance that enhances the building façade. It is certified by the BBA and KIWA, and is fully compliant with current fire safety regulations – making it a robust and aesthetically versatile solution for modern façade remediation and energy efficiency upgrades.
While access and delivery to the Royal View site presented several logistical challenges due to its residential location and restricted space, strong coordination between project teams ensured everything ran smoothly. With APEX managing on-site installation, the works remained on schedule, minimising disruption to residents and ensuring alignment with the latest Building Safety legislation.
Working alongside façade and component specialists including BTS Facades & Fabrications, Ash & Lacy, Guttercrest, OBEX UK, and Siderise Group, the Royal View project exemplifies what can be achieved through joined-up thinking and technical precision.
The thermal performance of the building was significantly improved, with U-values reduced from 1.30 W/m²K to 0.28 W/m²K following the installation of the upgraded EWI system.
This project reflects the best of modern retrofit: a high-impact regeneration scheme where thermal performance, fire safety, and façade design come together in a cohesive, technically advanced solution.
