External Wall Insulation is a highly effective energy-saving solution that not only cuts heating bills and boosts comfort, but also gives your home a fresh new look. When installed under PAS 2035 standards and integrated into a whole-house compliant retrofit plan, it delivers durable, safe, and high-performance results.

The standard process includes:

Installing rigid insulation boards (e.g. EPS or mineral wool) onto the external wall surface.
Applying mechanical fixings and adhesive to securely attach the boards.
Adding reinforcing mesh and applying a base coat to stabilise the surface.
Finishing with decorative render or cladding (e.g. silicone render, brick slips, or stone-effect finishes).
Extending roof eaves, sills, downpipes, and vents where necessary to accommodate the added wall thickness.

The system must achieve a U-value of 0.30 W/m²K or better to comply with Building Regulations and PAS 2035 standards.

EWI under PAS 2035 must follow these requirements:

Installed by PAS 2035 certified and TrustMark registered contractors.
Assessed by a Retrofit Coordinator as part of a full PAS 2035 whole-house assessment.
Systems must be approved and BBA-certified, meeting fire resistance, thermal performance, and weather resistance standards.
Special consideration for fire safety—especially for buildings over 11 metres high (compliance with Building Regulations Part B).
Full risk management, including condensation risk, moisture ingress, and structural integrity.
