The Haven is part of a Social Housing Assisted Living (SHAL) improvement project. This project, working alongside Monmouthshire Housing provides valuable services and housing to vulnerable residents. Their sheltered housing scheme is designed to meets the needs of older people, who require security, privacy, and independence, with the reassurance that help is there when they need it.

The Haven is a purposely build sheltered housing facility compromising of two-story blocks of flats in the Penperlleni area of Wales dating back to the 1960’s. Due to the properties age, some technical performance of the building had been compromised. Including the thermal efficiency, condensation problems and damp and mould. Therefore as part of the SHAL improvement project P & P Building & Roofing Contractors were selected to upgrade the exterior of the building by installing a full external wall insulation (EWI) system, working closely with the internal deign team they selected Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield as a supplier to bring the vision to life over a 7 month period.

With the various challenges in mind, P & P Building & Roofing Contractors worked closely with the interior design team at Monmouthshire Housing to select a Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield EWI System to solve the issues at present and ensure the property was enhanced and improved for its many residents. The specification was:

• Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield 90mm Grey Enhanced EPS
• Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield Mesh
• Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield Render Baseoat
• Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield Silicone Enhanced Render – Ivory
• Clay Brick Slips

The system was selected because it provided great thermal efficiency improvements that would in turn help the buildings residents live more comfortably, achieving a U-Value calculation of 0.29. The render finish was selected because of its easy application and maintenance which meant that residents could be assured of low maintenance and lack of future disruption. The design choices were made in line with keeping the properties in the area, and with the many choices and colours available from Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield it was easy to bring this to life.

Shaun Moss, National Sales Manager at PPG said “It’s great to see how Johnstone’s Trade Stormshield EWI systems can support such an important facility offered by the SHAL and Monmonshire Housing. The clients can be assured now that The Haven will continue to provide much needed thermal performance, protecting residents and keeping it looking great”

The team at P & P Building & Roofing Contractors finished this project to the highest of standards, leaving the end result not only providing much needed thermal support, but also a beautifully finished series of flats that will provide vital housing for Monmouthshire’s vulnerable residents.

The clients can be assured now that The Haven will continue to provide much needed thermal performance, protecting residents and keeping it looking great.
