INCA Case Study: Eschol Court, Newport

Eschol Court, Newport

Project Type: Refurbishment

Building Type: Low Rise Residential

Architect: N/A

System Designer: Structherm Ltd

Installer: Westdale Midlands

System & Finish: Structherm Mineral fibre NSC-R-ART-LR & NSC-R-MIN-LR + Artbrick and Silicone

U-value Achieved: 0.30 w/m2k

Eschol Court is a residential home for the elderly which has been refurbished in partnership with our Approved Installation Contractor, Westdale Midlands on behalf of Newport City Council.

The client specifically requested for a BBA approved Mineral Fibre external wall insulation specification with an Artbrick finish, and a mineral render finish on the infill panels beneath the windows.

The property required thermally upgrading from the previous U-value of 1.40 W/m2K to 0.30 W/m2K. and the finish was to replicate the existing surrounding brick built bungalows. Structherm provided the client with a combination of samples to choose from to ensure that the brick effect render would be as close as possible to the existing brickwork.

Through pinning Mineral Fibre was a new process to some on site and therefore Structherm provided on site training and guidance on the detailed abutments such as the flat roofs.

The refurbishments required involved;
• Roof works
• Structherms External Wall Insulation System
• New windows and doors

The long lead time on tiles delayed the works starting on time, however this was quickly overcome when starting on site, as the speed and efficiency of the Artbrick installation meant that the job was completed on time and to a high standard. The Artbrick render can be installed a lot quicker than the application of brick slips which makes the product a quick and easy method to upgrading a building without compromising on quality.

Eschol Court is a good example of upgrading properties without changing the aesthetics of the original building. The unique Artbrick brick effect render can be created to match a variety of colours and patterns which make the properties look impressive. The Mineral Render infill panels below the windows create a contrasting look which makes the building look sophisticated and welcoming for the residents. The improvement of the thermal performance and the windows/doors means that the building will now cost less to run and will create a more comfortable living space for the residents and staff to enjoy.

The client has been showcasing the project to other councils around the area and the residents have reported feeling much more comfortable.

“The end result is fantastic! The client is over the moon with the finish”
