Choosing a finish
There are four main finish types:
- Mineral Finishes - Contain cement - used with Direct
Applied and Rail Supported Systems:
Dry Dash Also known as pebble dash or spar
dash, rough textured, natural finish, in a variety of colour combinations.
Scrape
Texture Renders Coloured cementitious topcoat render scraped to show
colour and texture, sometimes painted.
Plain Float Renders Coloured
cementitious topcoat finished flat, sometimes painted.
Wet Cast Also
known as harling or roughcast.
- Synthetic Finishes Based on acrylic, silicone or magnesium silicate resins. Wide colour
choice:
Masonry Paint Smooth or sand textured, best suited to plain
render finishes.
Flexible Textured Finish Aggregate loaded materials
with good watershed, crack bridging and abrasion resistance characteristics.
Trowel or machine applied.
Aggregate Textured Finishes Contain measured
quantities of graded aggregate which control the thickness of texture
- even texture; drag texture.
- Panel Finishes Used on Ventilated
Rainscreen Systems:
Preformed Panels Normally pre-cut to size off site.
Self finished in a wide choice of textures and colours. Panels may
be made in a variety of forms, from high pressure, resinous laminate
panels, to cast glass fibre reinforced polymer products. Surface or
secret fixed, using screws or rivets. Profiled Metal Sheets Roll formed
trapezoidal or sinusoidal profiles in preformed aluminium or galvanised
steel. Cassette Panels Prefabricated in aluminium to site requirements,
painted or polyester powder coated.
- Natural Materials Terracotta, natural
and reconstituted stone. Fixed with clips or lock-on anchors.
