Choosing a finish

There are four main finish types:

  • Mineral Finishes - Contain cement - used with Direct Applied and Rail Supported Systems:
Dry Dash Also known as pebble dash or spar dash, rough textured, natural finish, in a variety of colour combinations.
Scrape Texture Renders Coloured cementitious topcoat render scraped to show colour and texture, sometimes painted.
Plain Float Renders Coloured cementitious topcoat finished flat, sometimes painted.
Wet Cast Also known as harling or roughcast.
  • Synthetic Finishes Based on acrylic, silicone or magnesium silicate resins. Wide colour choice:
Masonry Paint Smooth or sand textured, best suited to plain render finishes.
Flexible Textured Finish Aggregate loaded materials with good watershed, crack bridging and abrasion resistance characteristics. Trowel or machine applied.
Aggregate Textured Finishes Contain measured quantities of graded aggregate which control the thickness of texture - even texture; drag texture.
  • Panel Finishes Used on Ventilated Rainscreen Systems:
Preformed Panels Normally pre-cut to size off site. Self finished in a wide choice of textures and colours. Panels may be made in a variety of forms, from high pressure, resinous laminate panels, to cast glass fibre reinforced polymer products. Surface or secret fixed, using screws or rivets.
Profiled Metal Sheets Roll formed trapezoidal or sinusoidal profiles in preformed aluminium or galvanised steel.
Cassette Panels Prefabricated in aluminium to site requirements, painted or polyester powder coated.
  • Natural Materials Terracotta, natural and reconstituted stone. Fixed with clips or lock-on anchors.
