INCA HOLDS SUCCESSFUL SEMINAR & EXHIBITION

Awards Presented by Maxwell Hutchinson, as Chairman

Nearly 100 specifiers and industry gathered at a seminar held this month to discuss the use of external wall insulation with modern methods of construction. The conference was sponsored by the Insulated Render and Cladding Association and held at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, Madejski Stadium, Reading.

            The Seminar was Chaired by Maxwell Hutchinson, well known architect and television broadcaster, of the Hutchinson Studio, London EC1. Speakers included Ant Wilson, Faber Maunsell, who discussed the role of external wall insulation within the new Building Regulations; and Mark Lawson, SCI Professor of Construction Systems at the University of Surrey, who ran through the new guide ‘Insulated Render Systems Used with Light Steel Framing’ produced by the Steel Construction Institute in conjunction with INCA. Two architects reported on their projects, which won the INCA Andy Swan 2006 Awards for the best use of external wall insulation. Karen Pickering, of Page & Park Architects, discussed the University of Dundee Applied Computer Building, the overall winner; and Richard Reid, of Richard Reid & Associates, presented the various stages of the Lower Mill Estate, Somerford Keynes, Cotswolds, which won the runner-up place. Both were presented with trophies by Maxwell Hutchinson, on behalf of INCA.

            A comprehensive exhibition of external wall insulation systems was held alongside the Seminar and viewed by specifiers over lunchtime. The Association’s Annual General Meeting was held on the same day.
