Public Buildings: New Build
Runner-up: The Lauries Centre, Birkenhead

The Lauries Centre, Exmouth Street, Birkenhead, is a ‘drop-in’ centre for the local community, which houses Age Concern Wirral, police community liaison and other educational and social assistance facilities.

The specifier required a high quality façade over the Metsec construction. The walling system was designed and installed by E J Horrocks Ltd. It incorporated the PermaRock external wall insulation system, with 80 mm of mineral fibre to meet current U-value requirements for thermal insulation. The finish was in caramel colour to blend in with the surrounding buildings. A feature was the window profile with window pod detail design.

The system designer was Permarock Products Ltd; the installer, E J Horrocks Ltd – both members of INCA.
