Refurbishment: Private Apartments
Runner-Up: The Ice House, Nottingham

The Ice House, Nottingham, was an infill development intended to unify the fragmented streetscape by using materials, forms and classes to complement neighbouring developments. It is a focal point within Nottingham City, next to the National Ice Arena, that needed to be integrated with the public square.

The architects, Lewis & Hickey, specified PermaRock’s BRE accredited mineral fibre external wall insulation system, with 80 mm of insulation, to achieve a U-value of 0.35 W/m_K, whilst maximising natural daylight through large glazed panels. The insulated render system was applied to both the existing concrete substrate and onto lightweight metal frame infill panels with an NHBC drained cavity. Two contrasting colours of PermaRock acrylic finish were used.

The system designer was PermaRock Products Ltd; and the installer ECL Contracts Ltd - both INCA members.
