Public Buildings: New Build & Refurbishment
Runner-Up: Exeter Crown & County Courts

The Exeter Crown & County Courts, Pavillion Place, Southernhay, Exeter, Devon, is a new, large rotunda building on a brownfield site and close to the main ring road, that needed to withstand impact damage, graffiti and road pollution.

The specifier, Alfred McAlpine for Enterprise Civic Buildings, used the Alsecco external wall insulation system to cater for feature detail and the curved surface; provide good thermal and acoustic performance, with 80 mm of lamella mineral wool providing a U-value of 0.35W/m2K; and with the silicone Silitect finish to achieve smooth, clean lines, highly resistant to impact damage. Additional cement particle board and anti-graffiti coatings were added at low level. The system designer was Alsecco (UK) Ltd; and the installer Joyner PA Ltd – both INCA members.
