Educational: New Build
Runner-up: Middlemoor Police Training Headquarters,
Exeter
The Middlemoor Police Training Headquarters, Middlemoor, Exeter, Devon,
has become a focal point of the area through use of crisp white acrylic
render, contrasting with surrounding drab concrete buildings.
To achieve
this goal, the architect, Nigel Grange, used PermaRock's mineral fibre/lamella
insulated render systems onto the blockwork and lightweight metal frame,
to suit the curved surfaces, which add to the individuality of the building,
whilst enabling U-values of 0.35W/m2K to be achieved. Project specific
architectural profiles were incorporated into the insulated render and
cladding system. Timber cladding and large glazed panels complemented
the white render. As the project is adjacent to a busy main road, the
use of the mineral fibre insulant contributed to reducing noise transmission
through the external walls. The system designer was PermaRock Products
Ltd; the installer, Joyner Group Plc - both INCA members.
