Runner-up: Temple Normanton Surestart Children’s Centre, Derby

The Temple Normanton Surestart Children's Centre, Lower Dale Road, Normanton, Derby, 'wraps' itself around the site, allowing a simple structure, without internal columns, for natural light and ventilation. Almost the entire building has a view of the garden through a double height conservatory.

The architect, Derek Trowell, specified bright, bold coloured renders to give an attractive, vibrant appearance. PermaRock’s exterior render system and the PermaRock mineral fibre insulated render system, incorporating 30 mm mineral fibre insulation (to achieve a U-value of 0.28 W/m_K), were chosen by the architect. Both systems employed a silicone textured render decorative finish. The system designer was PermaRock Products Ltd; and the installer Les Stirland Plastering Contractors Ltd - both INCA members.
